Guide to Holy Week

Wednesday, Mar. 27th: 11:00 AM and Noon

Holy Wednesday — On this day we offer two services: First, the 11 AM Healing Eucharist with the Saints in the church and then at Noon, a service of Stations of the Cross beginning in the Columbarium. The latter service takes place outside and involves walking in the desert between the Stations. Please dress appropriately!

Friday, Mar. 29th: 12:00 - Noon

Thursday, Mar. 28th: 6:30 PM

Maundy Thursday – This beautiful service commemorates two things. First, the “mandatum” or “great commandment” that Jesus gives to the disciples before he leaves them. (“Love one another as I have loved you.”) Secondly, the night is a memorial of the Last Supper and the institution of the Eucharist itself. After Communion, the altar is stripped bare to remember Jesus’ arrest. Participants often find the experience intensely powerful.

Good Friday – A traditional, spoken, Good Friday Service from the Book of Common Prayer. This solemn occasion remembers the Passion of Jesus and his Death on the Cross.

Saturday, Mar. 30th: 6:30 PM

The Great Vigil of Easter – The sadness of Lent and Good Friday is transformed at the Easter Vigil into rejoicing and celebration. The service traditionally begins with the lighting of a new fire and the procession of candles into the church. An ancient piece of music called the “exsultet” is chanted and the service recalls God’s promise of salvation. For the first time in 40 days we will renew our baptismal vows and sing “alleluias!”

Sunday, Mar. 31st: 9:30 AM

Easter Sunday - a traditional and joyous offering with bold “hallelujahs” and a proclamation of Christ’s Resurrection!

Easter Monday - The church office will be closed to allow a day of rest for our staff.
